CMS Hack

I turned in my final deliverables to my Google site. I'll also check iLearn, but I didn't see an upload link yesterday. Also, I'm happy to note that I got my Image page working. It's not what I wanted but it's pretty close.

Started creating slideshow for Images page. Luckily, I had an exercise in DAI 327 where we had to do something similar except with objects not pics. I'm assuming all I have to do is upload the swf to the site. Hopefully, it won't be too big. Otherwise, it's gonna cost me $$$ to get more space. I'm only using about 15-20 images, so I don't think it will take up all my upload capacity.

CMS Hack

Haven't been able to work on my site much. I've been too busy working on my book and Xpress. I plan to work on it this weekend, though. I want to create a slideshow for my images in Flash. I need to research how to do this.

Uploaded my custom banner to my Wordpress site. Like the banner. Not crazy about the color of the background. Really wish I could customize CSS without having to pay $20.

Finished my banner. Not sure if I want to add text to it. Probably not. Would probably obscure images or be too cluttered. Besides, the name of the site is above the banner anyway. Although, I wish I could change the typeface. I also wish I could find the kind of typeface they use for comic books. (No, not Comic Sans!)

CMS Hack

I've decided to create a free Wordpress site instead of using a hosted one. I wanted to create one to upload, but I realized, because I have to share my computer with someone, that I wouldn't be able to devote all the time and effort necessary to make my site as good as possible. 

I'm not a big fan of the themes, though. Nothing really fits what I want to do. It would be o.k. if I could change the typeface, but, in order to do that, I would have to pay $20 to be able to customize the CSS and I don't want to do that. Also, the plug-ins I wanted to use aren't available with the free site. It just means I'll have to create the photo slideshow with Flash.

CMS Hack

Found a new site that's doing what I want to do. MTV's Splash Page looks similar to the look I want my site to have, but with a different color scheme and not quite as clean a design. Still, it's something I'm going to be looking at while I'm making my site.

CMS Hack

Found a bunch of comic book films and their reviews on IMDB. Probably didn't find all of them. Might go to graphic novel section at Borders to do some research. Not sure if I want to include films based on mangas or not. Depends how much time I have, because I'm sure there are a lot of mangas to weed through.

Wordpress Site

Haven't had much time to work on site. Mostly doing research. I have a lot more to do than I thought. I still need to compile a more comprehensive list of movies to compile a reviews section. I also need to find more images of different movies. Mostly, I just have images from 5 comic book film franchises. I still haven't decided whether to use the Wordpress hosting site or get buy server space.

Project 3 CMS Hack

Have my basic layout all set. Also found quite a few good sites for my news feed and for images. I need to do more research to compile a more comprehensive list of films.

Haven't really had time to do research for my project, because of my work on Xpress. I plan on working on it tonight since I have some free time. Mainly, I want to look at other sites that are similar to the one I want to do. I also want to look for news articles to archive for my news feed. Maybe I'll look for more images, as well.

Began my research for CMS Hack project. I found quite a few large images for my image map and for the image page. I also finished my proposal and content scope outline.

I'm done. At least with the design. I still need to look through and make sure everything is formatted right, but the elements are in there and the links all work.

Almost done with all my banners. I've made 4 so far. I think I'll do 1 or 2 more. Navigation works. Everything is done but the banners. Not too worried about that.

My girlfriend went through my site and gave me some advice. Now I'm making one banner for each section. For instance, the Home page will have a different banner than the Images page and so on. It's kind of late in the process and I have other projects to work on so I may have only 3 different ones, but I'll try to mix them up. I also added credits to my movies pages.

Project 2 Home Cooked

It's down the stretch time. I think I'm done. I finished redesigning the banner. I got some advice from my girlfriend who's made a lot. I think it fits well with the site. Still not sure about the typeface, but I don't really like anything else I have.

Right now, it's all about testing. I'll have my friends do some click throughs and assess the site's navigability and layout. If all's well, I will have finished my project. If only I were this confident about my Concept Map.

Project 2 Progress

I got some feedback from Josh. He says I need to alter my banner to make the Title more legible and to make the image smaller. He likes my background image and thinks I should emphasize it more. That's why he wants me to alter my banner. Also, he says I should reduce the size of the text of the navigation bar as well as the size of the bar itself. I also should get rid of the black background color of all my tables. 

I tried making these changes in class, but I irreparably damaged my page formats. The things that should be completely centered are off to the left even though everything says centered. Luckily, I was working off an older copy on the desktop in the lab. I would have worked off the version from my MP3 player, but I forget the USB cable. I guess I was lucky that I did. Now, I can try implementing the changes at home off that version and nothing is ruined. Note to self: ALWAYS keep multiple versions of projects in case of incidents like this.

Project 2 Trailers

I gave up trying to embed the trailers into my web pages. I decided I would just link to the YouTube page instead. Less complicated. The site is coming together pretty well. Design wise, I think it's done. As far as interactivity, I've made navigation pretty easy. I also tried to limit the number of pages to avoid complications. I just need to have another trial run through to make sure all the pages look and operate the way they are supposed to. But, for the most part, I think I'm done.

Project 2

I'm almost done with my protosite. I'm having trouble on two fronts though. First, I tried pasting in an image from photoshop, but all that showed up was a weird placeholder block. Also, I can't figure out how to embed trailers. I'm sure I have to import a Flash player, but I don't know how. 

So, for right now, I'm stuck. But everything else is going fine. Singer helped me with the problems I was having with body text. I just need to get the text on the bio page to wrap correctly. The padding at the bottom works, but the padding on the right isn't showing up when I test the page.

Other than that, I think I'm set. I've done click throughs and ever link works. Images and text show up where they're supposed to aligned how they're supposed. The structure is sound. 

Project 2

I just realized I haven't put nav links in any pages other than my home page. Users would have to hit the back button and go to the Home page if they wanted to navigate anywhere else. I'm going to have to go back and fix this.

Project 2

I've gotten pretty far in class on my site. I still have a ways to go. I have the main pages like Home, Biography, and Filmography set up and navigable. I just need to set up pages for images and about me. I wanted to make the images page similar to the Biography/Filmography page. When you click on the thumbnail of the image, it takes you to another page with the full sized image for download. However, I realize now I have a lot of images, which means a lot of pages to create, somewhere around 20. I'm thinking for the sake of simplicity, I'm only going to create pages for about half of those, about 10. I also want the images to pop up as a new window or tab. I don't know how to do that. Overall, though, I have the basic structure set up and the pages are starting to look like I planned, for the most part.

Project 2 Update

I haven't really had time to work on my site. I did some things last class, but nothing in depth. I figured out how to create links, which I'm very happy about. I'll probably work on linking to other pages I created next. 

I don't like the look of the site, but the basic structure is in place. Dreamweaver is harder than I thought, but I think I'm making strides. I'm catching on pretty quickly. I just have to work on making the site look better.

Project 2 Contents

I found a bunch of trailers for my Filmography page. I was hoping I could just download them, but it looks like I'm going to have to take the code and embed them instead. Oh well. Hopefully, it will be easier than the way I wanted to do it. I want to find some better images, though. Some of the ones I have are kinda small. There are probably a bunch out there.  I just haven't had time to look very much.

Project 2

Finished my Wireframe Sunday. It was pretty simple. I'm trying not to make the pages too complicated because I don't want to mess with coding too much since I'm new to it. I just want all the links to work and the images to show up. I'm going for a minimalist approach at first and, if things go well, I might get adventurous.

Project 2

Almost done with my Wireframes. It's not too hard since I plan on making the pages pretty simple in regards to navigation. On every page there's going to be a banner at the top with my logo and below that a navigation bar with links to Home, Biography/Filmography, Images, and About Me pages. 

The Biography/Filmography page will have a JPG of Chan-wook Park and short biography of him. Below that will be a list of his movies including ones in pre-production. Each one will be a link that will take you to a page that will have a review of the movie and a trailer, if they are available. 

The Images page will have a link to the images based on categories like "Chan-wook Park," "Movies," and "Actors." Each of these pages will then have a collection of images that fit that category and displayed as thumbnails. When you click on them, it will take you to another page or a pop-up page with the full-sized image.

The About Me page is simple in content. All it will have will be a short bio on me and how and why I like Park's movies. At the bottom of the page, I will have a contact email for users to send questions, compliments or complaints.

Project 2

I'm having trouble finding trailers online, at least ones I can download. I wanted to avoid having to go to LimeWire but I will if I have to. Otherwise, finding content isn't too difficult. A lot of the images I found are decent size, a few really good resolution. I'm sure there are plenty more out there. I just haven't had time to really look.

Home Cooked Research

I found some good images online for Chan-wook Park. Some might be a bit too small, but resolution should be good. I still need more screen shots. So far, I've only found some for Lady Vengeance and his new film "Thirst."

Home Cooked

I've decided to change topics. Originally, I was going to do my site on Joy Division, but I wasn't really feeling it. Instead, I've decided to do it on Chan-wook Park, who directed movies like "Oldboy" and "Sympathy for Lady Vengeance." I prefer this topic because it's a little more obscure. I didn't really have to change my outline much. I just have to do more research, now, but that shouldn't take too long.

Home Cooked

Finished my outline. Not sure I want to stick with my topic. I chose Joy Division because I knew I wanted to do a band, but didn't know which to choose especially after Josh took my Dead Kennedys idea. I also thought of doing a Watchmen site, but I couldn't really come up with a cohesive set of ideas for content. I might go back to that idea if I can come up with something good.

Google Site Project

Finished my site Wedsnesday. I added stuff during class like an Imeem player and a Mac|Life feed. Changed the background, too. Still not completely happy, but I like it better.

Almost done with my site. Had a little trouble figuring out how to imbed my blog, but I think I've figured it out. Otherwise, it was pretty simple. Still a work in progress, though. Doesn't quite look the way I want. Oh well.
